Homeland Security: Guam Remains In COR 2; Winds Between 40-50MPH Possible Saturday Afternoon

Guam - Guam remains in Condition of Readiness 2 (COR 2).  COR 2 means damaging winds of 39-57 MPH are expected within 24 hours, possibly late Saturday afternoon 

A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Guam.  A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected within 24 hours.
 
The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and the Joint Information Center (JIC) have been activated and will remain operational 24 hours a day. 
 
The following pre-designated emergency shelters opened at 8:00 p.m. Friday evening:


·         Northern:  Astumbo Elementary, MA Ulloa Elementary, Machananao Elementary, Upi Elementary and FBLG Elementary
·         Central:  George Washington High School and Carbullido Elementary
·         Southern:  Merizo Elementary, Talofofo Elementary, MU Lujan, Inarajan Middle and HS Truman Elementary
 
All residents seeking shelter are reminded of the following:
·         Bring a 3-day supply of non-perishable food, water, toiletries and medication
·         Bring flashlights and batteries NOT candles and matches
·         No Pets, alcohol, weapons will be permitted within the shelter premises
 
The US Coast Guard Captain of the Port of Guam has placed Guam, Rota, Saipan and Tinian to Condition of Readiness 1 (COR 1).  All Marinas are closed to inbound and outbound recreational and commercial traffic, these restrictions shall remain in effect until lifted by the Captain of the Port. 
 
Mariners should exercise extreme caution and monitor broadcast notice to mariners for status updates on weather, port and aids to navigation conditions.
 
Joint Region Marianas has established COR 2.  Morale, Welfare and Recreation facilities are closed at COR 2. Navy Exchange, which include Autoport and Mini-marts, and Commissary will be closed Saturday, October 3rd.
 
U.S. Naval Hospital Guam is encouraging all expectant mothers beyond their 38th week of pregnancy to contact the hospital's Mother Baby Unit at 344-9375 to make arrangements.
 
The Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA) has announced that beginning 8 a.m. Saturday, expectant mothers who are at least 36 weeks pregnant (and women with high-risk pregnancies who are at least 28 weeks pregnant) may begin checking in at Guam Memorial Hospital as a precautionary measure.
 
No escorts may accompany the mothers and no children are allowed. Mothers should report to the patient registration department on the first floor.
 
Normal visiting hours at GMHA will be suspended as of 8 a.m. Saturday.
 
All residents are advised of the following:
Avoid beaches and waters as high surf and strong currents can be life threatening.
Prepare your homes, stock your emergency supply kits and continue to monitor local media for updated information.
