Guam - Guam News
Guam--The Special Election is Saturday and 6 candidates are running for the seat left vacant by the resignation of Matt Rector.
The list may be short but the wait for the results could be long.
Guam Election Commission Director John Blas says first results would be expected by late Saturday night but it could be hours longer, because for the first time in years, the ballots will be counted manually.
Blas says Electronic Systems and Software, the company that provides electronic ballot counting, sent an invoice for past services in early March and he doesn’t have enough time to reconcile what they’re invoicing.
Blas says there are invoices for services dating back to 2008 that have been paid for and the GEC has proof of that. But they cannot possibly reconcile the account before Saturday’s election.
Blas said if GEC owed for services in prior years, “Why would they be billing for them now?”
Tabulators will have to manually count each vote as they come in.
