This afternoon [WEDNESDAY] , Lotte Duty Free Guam representatives issued the following statement regarding their award of the retail concession at the Guam International Airport, and the immediate protest by DFS to the award.

Mr. Steve Park, the CEO of the Lotte Duty Free Guam stated, "We respect DFS’ right to protest the decision of the GIAA, and will cooperate in any way possible during this protest. Protests are not uncommon in the duty free industry. Lotte Duty Free believes that the Airport has executed the Concession Retail RFP in a fair and impartial manner."

'Lotte Duty Free has no reason to believe that GIAA's original decision will change, and we look forward to working with GIAA to deliver on our ambitious plans and build a truly world-class retail facility at Guam Airport.'

Mr. Gerry Perez, Lotte Duty Free’s Transition Director went on to say, “'We are confident that the Airport’s decision shall be upheld as fair, unbiased and in the best interest of Guam.” He went on to say that the award has caught the attention of the international travel industry."

Lotte’s confidence in Guam as a place to invest is reinvigorating interest in the island. Guam’s visitor industry is growing and competition is always in the best interest of the community.

"Lotte will bring new products and a completely improved approach to retail services at the airport. We are confident that we can turn around the declining sales the airport has been experiencing. Lotte is moving forward to preparing for the transition because we know that further delays cost the people of Guam and the GIAA greatly. We estimate that hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue is sacrificed for each month this process remains unresolved."

"We want to be ready to proceed immediately after the DFS protest so we can contribute what we believe the airport should be earning, not what it has been earning. We have enormous confidence that our plans for the airport will help the industry and help the airport turn around retail revenues during this period of growth."
