Guam Supreme Court Justice Robert J. Torres, 2012 Guam Law Week Co-Chair and Attorney Jay Arriola of the Guam Bar Association accepted the award on behalf of Attorney Cynthia Ecube, President of the Guam Bar Association, Chief Justice F. Philip Carbullido and the Judiciary of Guam and Chief Judge Frances H. Tydingco-Gatewood and the District Court of Guam.
The Guam Program was recognized for its innovative program that reflected the 2012 national Law Day theme of “No Courts, No Justice, No Freedom” and significant involvement of the legal community in programs for youth, and adults.

Guam Bar Association, Judiciary of Guam and District Court of Guam
With “Lawyers on the Air;” attorneys responded to radio station caller inquiries, and held a Law Fair at the largest mall in Guam. A video emphasizing the importance of open and accessible courts was produced and ran on Guam public television stations. The Guam Bar Association, Judiciary and District Court also hosted several annual activities including Law Day art and essay contests, court tours, a 5K run and a videoconference mock trial, where junior high school students performed a mock trial broadcast in real time for middle school students across Guam who served as jurors.

2013 Law Day Preparations to Begin
The Law Week Committee will soon convene to begin preparation for the 2013 Guam program. This year’s theme is “Realizing the Dream: Equality for All” and will be focused on the movement for civil and human rights in America and its impact it in promoting the ideal of equality under the law. The theme will provide an opportunity for reflection on the work that remains to be done in rectifying injustice, eliminating all forms of discrimination, and putting an end to human trafficking and other violations of basic human rights.
