Guam - Speaker Judi Won Pat has decided to hold a public hearing on bill 491 better known as Senator Chris Duenas' “Bucks for Buses” bill.

The measure has stirred up some controversy as it calls for the repeal of raises that senators gave themselves during the previous term. The money saved would then be given to DPW for it's school bus operations.

In her release to the media Speaker Won Pat explains that she still feels that this bill was inappropriately referred to her committee but to avoid any further delays she has decided to hold the public hearing on August 20th at 5p.m.

"I'm sending out a release momentarily thanking the speaker and also acknowledging in her release to me that I can see a little bit more clearly now the dilemma that existed and I am glad now that she stepped forward and is gonna have this hearing and I'm getting a lot of public support for it so I think it's the right thing to do and I look forward to the hearing on the bill,” said Senator Duenas.

Senator Duenas is encouraging everyone who supports the measure to show up to the public hearing.
