VIDEO: In-Office Voting Begins at GEC Office

Guam- The Guam Election Commission (GEC) conducted the first day of in-office voting for those with legitimate reasons for missing the September 1 Primary Election.

Executive Director Maria Pangelinan says 6 people have cast their votes today [Thursday]. The GEC office has been rearranged to accommodate voting booths and sample ballots have been posted to help educate voters. She mentions her staff will walk voters through the process, which takes about 10 minutes or less.

In-office voting only occurs Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Pangelinan also says District Voter Registration began today and will also occur from Monday to Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.. She adds island residents can go to their village mayors offices, except for Hagatna. Those residents can go directly to the GEC office.

“District registrars are there to assist voters with the registration process, changes, if you've moved you can do the transfers there” said Pangelinan. “They are also there to do decolonization registry.”

GEC also states the deadline to file for positions in the Guam Education Board (GEB) and Consolidated Commission on Utilities (CCU) is coming up. Six seats are up for grabs in the Education Board. The candidate packets and required petitions are due September 4. Two seats are available in the CCU. The deadline to file is September 7 and no petitions are required.
