VIDEO: i*recycle's Peggy Denney Seeks to Change Mindset About Trash on Guam

Guam News - Guam News

Guam- "Zero waste or pretty darn near." That's the new goal that i*recycle Program Administrator Peggy Denny wants to set as she seeks to inspire the community to change its mindset about trash on Guam.

Denney was the guest speaker during a lunch meeting for the Rotary Club of Tumon Bay today [Tuesday]. She mentions her focus is on what can be recycled on island and the success of the recycling efforts at the liberation carnival grounds. While she talks about a substantial amount of recyclables being diverted from the Layon Landfill, she wants to look at quantifying their efforts in the near future. Denney says everyone has a role in keeping the island clean and how people think about trash.

“You don't look at it all as trash or garbage” said Denney. “You look at it as recyclable waste. You look at it as compostable or biodegradable waste and then you look at the waste that has to go in the landfill.”

Denney also says i*recycle has received another check from the Anheuser-Busch Recycling Corporation for over $27,652 dollars. This money will be distributed to the island's schools at the start of the school year. For more on the i*recycle program, log on to irecycleguam.org .
