VIDEO: Acting Governor Tenorio Applauds Bushong's Parting Buildup Remarks; "We Are Guhan's" Camacho Does Not

Guam News - Guam News

Guam -  Acting Governor Ray Tenorio is applauding the controversial comments made last Friday by outgoing Rear Admiral Paul Bushong, but "We Are Guhan's" Leevin Camacho is not.

During Friday's Change of Command ceremony, Bushong was critical of some island leaders who he said "scurried for cover when a few activists" declared opposition to the use of Pagat as a Firing Range. He also declared that Guam has now been given a second chance and it is time for island leaders to "man-up" and get the buildup back on track.

In response, Acting Governor Tenorio said he thinks Admiral Bushong is absolutely right.

“I think Admiral Bushong is absolutely right. Either you’re for or against the buildup. You can’t tell the people that you’re for the buildup just to get their votes, and then when they’re not looking, blast military officials in a private room. Or call Marines a bunch of rapists. That is really shady, and duplicitous of some leaders. I’m glad Admiral Bushong said what he said. He’s been a good friend of Governor Calvo and I, a good friend to Guam, and a fine, Guamanian who has contributed a lot to our island.”

We Are Guhan" led the opposition to the use of  Pagat. And Spokesman Leevin Camacho countered Bushong's comments saying it was not just a few activists, but the island's leadership that united in opposition to the use of Pagat as a firing range.

Rear Admiral Bushong has been nominated for promotion to Vice Admiral. He will be serving as U.S. Security coordinator for the Isreali-Palestinian Authority. Rear Admiral Tilghman Payne is the new Joint Region Marianas Commander.
