VIDEO: USS Frank Cable Arrives Back on Guam

Guam - The sub tender USS Frank Cable returned to its home port on Guam today,Monday, July 30.


The Frank Cable had been under going a regularly scheduled overhaul and dry-dock in Portland, Oregon since January 2012.

It arrived back at Naval Base Guam about 8:30am this morning.

The Frank Cable's Commanding Officer is Captain N. P. Hildreth.

About the USS Frank Cable
The Frank Cable was built by Lockheed Shipbuilding and Construction Company, Seattle, Washington. It was christened on January 14, 1978.  Commissioned on February 5, 1980,  FRANK CABLE was designed to tend the nuclear-powered Los Angeles-class attack submarines. The ship spent 1980 until 1996 as the repair ship for Submarine Squadrons FOUR and EIGHTEEN in Charleston, South Carolina, tending Sturgeon-class attack submarines and Benjamin Franklin-class ballistic missile submarines.  FRANK CABLE began decommissioning in 1996, but was reactivated and refitted to replace theUSS HOLLAND (AS 32) in the Western Pacific as Commander Seventh Fleet’s mobile repair and support platform.  

Since arriving in Guam, FRANK CABLE has visited many Western Pacific cities in support USS Frank Cable (AS 40)of U.S. forces. A few of those included are Brisbane, Australia; Hong Kong; Singapore; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Vladivostok, Russia; Subic Bay, Philippines and Yokosuka, Japan.

Arrival of USS FRANK CABLE (AS 40)

 

WHAT:  Emory S. Land Class submarine tender USS FRANK CABLE (AS 40) arrival on 30 July following a regular overhaul and dry-docking  in Portland, Oregon since January 2012.

Upon arrival at Naval Base Guam, USS FRANK CABLE Commanding Officer, Captain N. P. Hildreth will be available for a short interview. Family and friends will be pier-side to welcome the crew. There will be the traditional ‘First Kiss’ by a disembarking Sailor. FC PAO will determine family availability for interviews on location.

 

When: Monday, 30 July

Meet: 7:15/7:25 a.m., depart VCC at 7:30 a.m. sharp. Ship will be docked by approximately 8:30 a.m.

Where: New Visitor Control Center (outside the NBG front gate).

Transport: In Gov vehicle with PAO escort.

 

Groundrules:

- Wear press credentials clearly displayed.

- No photography on base until on location.

- Follow FC PAO guidance as to media movement on pier.

- Do not approach family members unless coordinated by FC PAO.

USS FRANK CABLE (AS40)

USS Frank Cable(as40) conducts expeditionary maintenance in the USPACOM and USCENTCOM Areas of Responsibility and services Commander, Submarine Squadron 15 Guam-based fast attack submarines.  The ship can provide sustained advanced-based, tending operations on FIFTH and SEVENTH Fleet assigned submarines and surface ships at anchor.
