First "State of Blindness" Address SATURDAY, July 28

Guam News - Community Events

Guam - The members of New Vision, Guam!  Cordially invite you as members of the island’s media to join us for Guam’s First State of Blindness Address on Saturday, July 28, from 10 am to noon, at the legislative Public Hearing Room.
That wonderful time of the year has arrived where we at New Vision, Guam!  Will come together to present observations, ideas, plans and
measureable steps we can take  to make Guam a better place for all of us to live.

Join us in this historic event as the first State of Blindness on Guam is delivered.  Long-time educator and advocate Kathleen a. Millhoff
will speak to the issues and solutions that individuals who are blind encounter.  New Vision, Guam! Is putting a face to the issues of blindness here in our island community and in the world.

Following this address will be a presentation by Guam Election Commission Executive Director Maria Pangelinan on the election process
and ways to improve accessibility for the blind.  Discussion will follow.

What had started as visits and phone calls of support and friendship between the blind and the newly blinded has expanded into a growing and strengthening network of support, education and advocacy by, of and for the blind.  What started as a handful of friends has blossomed into a community of the island’s blind.  When we at New Vision, Guam!

Say blind, we embrace this to mean anyone who is described as legally blind.  We are a growing community and we invite you to this forum
which gives voice and movement to our concerns.

To date we have identified 125 individuals who are blind on Guam.  We are in regular contact with 65 of them.  Collectively our voice
amplifies with numbers.  Some people read of history, some make history.  Join us in making history!
