VIDEO: CLTC Chairman Oscar Calvo Defends His Leadership & Refutes Senator Pangelinan's Claims

Guam News - Guam News

Guam - Chamorro Land Trust Commission Chairman Oscar Calvo says that Senator Ben Pangelinan is the only lawmaker who is against the confirmation of his re-appointment to the CLTC.

Calvo is reacting to the statements made Tuesday by Senator Pangelinan who told PNC News that he and other lawmakers have not put either Calvo's or David Matananes nominations to a vote because they didn't have the support and he didn't want to embarrass anyone.

Instead Pangelinan asked the Administration to send down new nominations. The Administration has responded that he will not send new nominations and is insisting that Pangelinan's committee vote on the nominations before them.

Calvo says that he had a discussion with Senator Pangelinan back in April during which he was assured by the Senator that it was nothing personal against him. Instead he believes that Senator Pangelinan holds a personal grudge against the Governor.

"I said is it because my name is a Calvo I said you know Senator I'm born with the name Calvo and I'm gonna die with the name Calvo and it's sadly that the Governor is Calvo right now and he's my nephew but you know what Senator I have to live with that and I even said this and even if I wanted to change my name today to Oscar Pangelinan it didn't sound right."

Calvo also took issue with the idea that the CLTC hasn't done anything while he was Chairman. Senator Pangelinan told PNC News Tuesday that some Senators voiced concerns over the progress of the CLTC under Calvo. Calvo says he has accomplished alot like calling for an audit of the land trust and improving other services.

"I think ben is just lying out of his teeth and I hate to say that but it is true but don't tell me Senator that right now that I have done nothing with this board and in the past ... and by the way even on the rules and regs he was pushing me to do the rules and regs and guess what that was two years ago he ramrod that thing down to my throat."

Calvo says that although he provided recommendations for these rules and regulations as requested, to this day no bill to implement these rules and regulations has been introduced.
