Guam News - Guam News

Guam- The 99th annual Association of Pacific Ports Conference officially begins tomorrow [Thursday] at the Marriott Resort.

Executive Director Dave Hunt says port leaders from the Pacific, Asia, the U.S. West Coast and Canada are coming together to share best practices and learn from each other to be successful in building and strengthening ports. Guam and the Republic of the Marshall Islands are co-hosting the event, which is themed around “Pacific Blue Continent Connections.” Hunt mentions a broad scope of issues will be discussed, including port security, trade expansion and infrastructure upgrades. He adds Guam's Port Modernization Plan will also be brought up.

“I think a lot of people are looking at Guam with envy that there is a specific port modernization plan that is underway” said Hunt. “So there are folks coming to learn about that. There are also other ports that are doing their own modernization plans...modernizing their wharves or their docks or their containerized facilities or their boat facilities and so one of the things about this conference is the opportunity for everyone, including the Guam port leaders, to share best practices with each other.”

Registration and a dinner reception at the Latte of Freedom is being held this evening for about 75 delegates that are attending the port conference. The event ends on July 21.
