Vice-Speaker Calls Oversight on Enforcement of Penalty Clause in Claims Data Law

Guam News - Guam News

Guam -Vice-Speaker B.J. Cruz has called an oversight hearing for next week Wednesday at which the Senator says he will raise questions about what he says has been the lack of enforcement of Public Law 30-93.

That is the law that requires the GovGuam health insurance provider, Calvo SelectCare, to file quarterly reports that reveal claims data, and it also provides for a penalty if those reports are filed late.

The Vice-Speaker says that last year, SelectCare filed 2 of those claims reports late. And he believes that the insurer owes nearly $900-thousand dollars in penalties to GovGuam. He says he has asked the Administration to collect those penalties but he has received no response. As a result he says he has called the oversight hearing.

Calvo Administration Spokesman Troy Torres told PNC News Monday that SelectCare's claims reports were filed on time and no penalty is owed by the insurer.

The oversight hearing is scheduled for next Wednesday, July 18,  beginning at 10 am at the Legislature's hearing room.
