Guam - GCC has been continuously accredited since 1979. Achieving that, says College President Mary Okada has been a team effort from students, teachers, faculty and community supporters.
Okada spoke Friday morning at GCC's new Learning Resource Center at a ceremony called to celebrate the 6 year accreditation awarded to the College by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
An 11 member accreditation team visited GCC back in March and GCC was 1 of only 3 colleges to have its accreditation reaffirmed for 6 years by the Commission.
In her remarks she highlighted how GCC has been able to handle its funding challenges by practicing fiscal responsibility.

Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo also spoke at the ceremony saying that the transformation of GCC over the last several years has been inspiring.
“I remember touring this campus many years ago and I thought, it looked hopeless” said Bordallo. “Today, it's absolutely inspiring. All these new buildings...and I'm just very proud.”
