VIDEO: Off and Running; 98 Candidates Make the Filing Deadline

Guam- The deadline to file for the September 1 Primary Election has passed and the Guam Election commission must now sort through all the documentation and verify that those that filed have met all the requriements to have their names entered onto the ballot.

In all, 98 candidates have filed to run for the various offices being contested in the Legislature, the Public Auditor, the Guam Delegate's seat and Mayoral positions.

Among the last minute filers, Zeny Nace running for Public Auditor. Mid-day Tuesday she issued a statment saying she would NOT run explaining she wanted to pursue her doctoral degree. But late Tuesday afternoon GEC confirmed she had submited the necessary paper work to run against incumbent Doris Flores Brooks for the Public Auditor's position.

And GEC also confirms two more Republican senatorial candidates submitted their packets just before the 5 p.m. deadline. They were Paul Reyes and William Sarmiento.

The deadline to register to vote in the Guam Primary Election is August 22. More precinct officials are still needed.

CNMI Election Commission Executive Director Robert Guerrero is also on Guam to remind people if they registered to vote in the CNMI, they cannot vote for people on Guam and vice-versa.
