United Increases Frequency of Guam - Sendai Flights to 4X-Weekly

Guam - United Airlines announced today that it will increase its flight frequency between Guam (GUM) and Sendai, Japan (SDJ) from two-times weekly to four-times-weekly, effective October 1.

United will introduce additional flights on Monday and Friday, in addition to the current Thursday and Sunday weekly schedule.

With the four-times-weekly service, United will return to its regular flight schedule between Guam and Sendai, as it was prior to the temporary closure of Sendai Airport following the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011. On June 22, 2011, United was the first to announce the resumption of regular service by a foreign airline at Sendai Airport. Sendai is one of 10 cities in Japan that United connects via Guam through nearly 70 weekly
flights.

The four-times-weekly nonstop service between Guam and Sendai will be operated by a Boeing 737-700 aircraft, with 12 business class seats and 112 economy class seats, for a total capacity of 124 seats. The flight’s schedule is as follows:

“United has been providing service between Guam and Sendai for 21 years, and we are very happy to return to pre-3/11 levels of flight frequency,” said Barry Bergmann, United’s managing director for Micronesia and Southeast Asia. “The decision to increase flights to four times a week was based on the strong support of our current service by our customers and travel agency partners along with the strong demand we see for the future.”

Bergmann added, “We are also planning three additional roundtrip charter flights this summer to meet increasing demand for travel to Guam. We will continue to monitor the market demand, and add capacity accordingly, in order to continue to provide the highest level of service to our customers in the region.”
