GOP Primary Will Be Needed Because There Are 20 Republicans in the Running for Legislature

Guam News - Guam News

Guam - For the first time in a long time, the Republican Party of Guam has more candidates running for the Legislature than the 15 legislative seats available to fill. That means there will be a republican primary election.

In all, there are 20 GOP candidates for this year’s senatorial election. Many of the candidates have already filed with the Guam Election commission. The deadline for filing is next Tuesday.

Party leader Mike Benito says the party is welcoming a lot of newcomers and candidates who have been on the list before but weren't successful:

Party insiders have been looking forward to the return of former Senator and failed Lt. Gubernatorial Candidate Jim Espaldon.  Republicans predict Espaldon will be a top vote-getter for the party.
