Chinese National Found Guilty of Passport Fraud in the CNMI

Saipan - Chinese National Aifang Ye has been found guilty of committing passport fraud. Her co-defendant, Zhenyan Cheng has been acquitted.

 

Ye is scheduled to be sentenced on September 21. She faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in jail and a fine of $250,000.

U.S. Attorney Alicia Limtiaco announced the verdicts which were handed down Friday at the CNMI District Court.

The jury spent 4 days deliberating before finding Ye guilty of one count of Conspiracy to Make a False Statement in a Passport Application and one count of Making a False Statement in a Passport Application.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security with the assistance from the U.S> Diplomatic Security Service. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S> Attorneys Ross K. Naughton and Garth R. Backe and tried before U.S. District Court Judge Ramona Manglona.
