Both teams wasted no time in the first half. The Rovers FC Royal took a 1-0 lead in the opening minute of play on a header by Cheri Stewart, who currently leads the league in goals scored with five in two games.
Unfazed by the early goal, the Rovers FC Gold’s Carlos Barajas came through for his team only a minute later to knot the game. Thirty minutes later, Barajas came through again, this time with an assist to teammate Eladio Manansala, who kicked in a goal from near the left post to give his team the 2-1 advantage.
Just two minutes into the second half, the Rovers FC Royal’s Take Inoue took a pass from Stewart and scored the equalizer on a shot from the right side. Stewart later scored the eventual game-winning goal connecting with a high kick off a pass from Pedro Walls right in front of the goal.
The Rovers FC Gold had a few opportunities to even the match later in the half. In the 55th minute, Barajas sprinted past a few defenders on the right side and sent a high pass over the Rovers FC Royal goalkeeper Saied Safa. The Rovers FC Gold’s Christina Duenas locked in for a header, but her shot unluckily cleared the crossbar.
Later, in the 87th minute, the Rovers FC Gold’s Caroline Quigley found Barajas on the right side, but his shot went just wide from the post.
In the final minute of the game, the Rovers FC Royal was awarded a free kick from about 20 yards after a foul was called on the Rovers FC Gold. In the ensuing play, Stewart tried for a hat trick with a header she flicked back, although her attempt missed the goal. The Rovers FC Gold defenders then shuffled in front of the goal to clear the ball, but the Rovers FC Royal’s Jan-Hendrik Meidinger got his foot on the ball and sent in a shot for the game’s final score.

The Rovers FC, the reigning champions of the Budweiser Men’s Soccer League Masters Division, split the team into two to form the Royal team and the Gold team for the Co-Ed league.
In the earlier game, Big Blue tied with the 4Runners 1-1. SungChan Hong scored for Big Blue and Jane O’Connor scored for the 4Runners.
In two games, Stewart leads the league in goals scored with five, followed by teammates Inoue and Ian Lawton with three each. Meidinger has two goals to his credit. The Rovers FC Gold’s Barajas, Manansala, James Oh and Luis Larrazabal each have one, along with Paintco Strykers’ Ashley Gamanche, Big Blue’s Noel Casilao and Hong, and O’Connor.
Games continue Saturday beginning at 6 p.m.
