Scam Alert: Governor Calvo Has Not Been Contacted About $15.5M Nigeria Wants to Give to You [NOT]

Guam News - Guam News

Guam - Not even the Governor of Guam is immune from the ubiquitous Nigerian spammers who have sent notice to various island residents that Governor Calvo himself has been contacted about $15.5 million Nigeria is willing to release to any gullible email recipient  who wants to provide their banking information to the anonymous spammer.

The Governor's office is taking the bogus email message seriously enough to send out an advisory to the media warning any recipients not to respond to this latest Nigerian email scam.

The Governor's office says a GHURA employee received one of the scam emails [it can be read below] and forwarded it to the Governor's office.

The message purports to be from a local businessman named Eduardo G. Camacho. The bogus email claims that Nigeria's President has authorized the release of $15.5 million to the recipient's bank account and all the recipient has to do is forward their personal banking information. It also says Governor Calvo has been contacted about the transaction.

Governor's spokesman Troy Torres says the email has been forwarded to the Governor's Legal Counsel, who will forward it to the Attorney General.

He says: "This is obviously a scam. Governor Calvo has not been contacted by Nigeria and does not want anyone who receives this email to give out personal information. We also doubt highly that this email came from Mr. Eduardo G. Camacho."

Torres requested that PNC pass the information along to the public advising that "this is a scam."

Even the Personal Finance Center sent out comment denying any involbvment in the email issuing the following statement:

"Neither Personal Finance Center nor Eduardo G. Camacho are involved with this in any way. This is a scam and PFC reminds the public to never provide any information that would jeopardize their identity."
