Guam News - Community Events
The artwork entries were posted for public viewing over the past weekend from Friday through Sunday at the Guam Premier Outlets in Tamuning. Among the hundreds of entries, only one will be used for the design of the Medal which will be presented to the family members of Guam residents who served in the armed forces or National Guard and were killed in action.
Judging for the competition took place on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at GPO. Judges included veterans Alan Van Aken, Jack Shimizu, and Johnny “Atulai” Taitano. Bobbie Taitano and Terry Van Aken were also judges for the contest.
The five judges selected the first place winner from the top nine entries from the elementary, middle, and high school divisions.
Winners of the contest will be announced at the ceremony of the presentation of Medals and the unveiling of the Honor Roll which will take place on Memorial Day weekend at the Guam Legislature Building in Hagåtña. Details of the event will be announced at a later date.
We would like to thank all the children; the principals and teachers from all the schools that submitted entries for the competition; the judges who spent their Sunday morning judging the artwork; the Guam Premier Outlets; and M80 Systems.
