Guam Governor Calvo Extends Condolences to Family of Saipan Solider Killed in Afghanistan

Guam - Guam Governor Eddie Calvo has issued the following statement of condolence to the Kaipat family on behalf of the people of Guam:

Governor Calvo's statement:

“Christine and I are praying for Lance Corporal Ramon Kaipat.  We’re so grateful for all he’s done to protect our nation and the Marianas. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kaipat family and all the people of Saipan during this difficult time.  We extend our deep condolences on behalf of the people of Guam.”

The 21 year old Marine Lance Corporal Ramon Taisacan Kaipat was from Garapan Saipan. He moved with his family to Tacoma Washington where he enlisted in the Marine Corp on September 22, 2008.

He died Wednesday in Helmand Province, Afghanistan as a result of multiple injuries from an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations. Kaipat was a member of a dismounted unit when he was hit by an IED while on combat patrol. He served in the 1st Marine Division out of Camp Pedleton in California.

This was his second deployment to Afghanistan. He has been decorated with the Purple Heart Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the NATO Medal-ISAF Afghanistan.

 

 

Kaipat is survived by his parents Pete Somorang Kaipat and Sinforosa Taisacan Kaipat and a younger brother and an older sister.

Kaipat is the 16th service member from the Commonwealth to die in the line of duty since the 9-11 attacks.
