Pangelinan Calls for Oversight Hearing on TakeCare Contract Termination

Guam News - Guam News

Guam - Appropriation's Committee Chair Senator Ben Pangelinan is calling on Health Committee Chair Senator Dennis Rodriguez to call on oversight hearing on the Guam Memorial Hospital Board's decision to terminate its contract with TakeCare.

In his letter to Senator Rodriguez, Pangelinan writes that the Public deserves to know if GMHA is experiencing the same challenges with other carriers with respect to "unreasonable denial of coverage," which is the reason cited by the hospital for terminating the TakeCare contract.

He calls it "rather unfortunate that this sudden, heavy-handed approach has caused unnecessary concern and anxiety to those who will be directly affected by the Board's decision."

And the Senator says that "the Calvo Administration transition team indicates delinquency of payment .. with all carriers."

In conclusion, Pangelinan asks Senator Rodriguez to "hold an oversight hearing so that the GMHA Board of Trustees can explain, in detail, their decision to terminate the TakeCare contract."

A spokesman for Senator Rodriguez, Clifton Herbert, told PNC that the Senator has not yet had a chance to review the letter.
