Guam - Guam remembered Martin Luther King Jr. Monday.

 

The leader of the nation's civil rights movement in the 1960s would have been 83 on Sunday. He was gun-downed in Memphis on April 4th 1968.

During a ceremony this morning at the Agana Shopping Center, Governor Calvo spoke about King's relevance to Guam today. In particular, he brought-up a reference to Guam made in a recent book on First Lady Michelle Obama in which the first lady was characterized as being  "like Guam. pleasant but powerless."

Island schools and both GovGuam and Federal offices resume normal operations Tuesday, following Monday's holiday in honor of the memory of Dr. King.
