Guam- A temporary moratorium has been placed on the Vicente Limtiaco Cemetery in Nimitz Hill by the Department of Parks and Recreation.
Director Pete Calvo says the upper level of the cemetery is full and they are in the process of clearing more space to bury the dead. He mentions available space on the property is dwindled down to infant burial requests and plots already occupied by deceased loved ones. However, the agency is already working with the Department of Corrections (DOC) to clear the lower level of the cemetery and the Department of Public Works (DPW) to apply coral in the access areas. Monday morning on the K-57 Breakfast Show with Ray Gibson, Calvo noted the lower level was cleared before.
"We are now working with DOC to try and get to the lower level and see what usability is down there” said Limtiaco. “We understand it's been cleared before and it's just a matter of finding out where exactly we can design burial plots."
According to Calvo, the temporary moratorium on this public cemetery will likely be lifted by the end of this week or the beginning of next week.
