Guam - The University of Guam is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2012. Events surrounding that celebration and other events on campus are listed in the release below:
UOG’S 60TH ANNIVERSARY
Our 60th Anniversary officially began on New Year’s Eve with the School of Education Bash. The festive banners are up on campus, the radio and TV spots are running, and a billboard at the Paseo Loop will be installed today – all to generate community awareness of UOG’s 60th.

* UOG Triton Stories
To celebrate the University’s 60th Anniversary and our Triton Spirit, we have captured about 20 Triton Stories to date and posted them on YouTube.com. Triton Stories are 60 second testimonials from our alumni. We just finished seven stories from various educators to showcase the School of Education during the month of January. Planetarium Shows
'Winter Skies' will be presented the 12th, 13th and 14th of January at 6:30 p.m. We'll first journey to the North Pole and then travel to Denver, Miami and finally to Guam. We'll find all the bright stars of winter and tell you how to spot three galaxies without a telescope. After the Winter Skies show, stay for Quality Time with the Star Lady at 7:00 p.m. The doors open at 6:00 p.m. each night and Planetarium shows are always free.
The Isla Center for the Arts Presents: The 10th International Shoebox Sculpture Exhibition – Ends Jan 13, 2012
The exhibit features 80 small-scale sculptures from around the world that are no larger than the size of an ordinary shoebox. The exhibit has attracted a large number of well-known artists from around the world. The exhibit ends January 13, 2012. The Center is open Monday – Friday 10:00am – 5:00pm and Saturday 10:00am – 2:00pm. Closed Sundays and holidays. Admission is free.
UOG Alumni Zumba Party – January 19
Get ready for the first-ever UOG Alumni Zumba Party! Featuring certified Zumba Instructors: Josh Pocaigue, Tami Pangelinan, Billy Navarrette, and Rizel Fernandez! What a great way to shed those holiday pounds and contribute to a great cause! It will be held in the UOG Fieldhouse on Thursday, January 19, 2012 from 6p.m. to 8p.m. Tickets are only $7 in advance and $9 at the door and it includes one bottled water and light refreshments. Plus, get a chance to win exciting raffle prizes! Proceeds from the event will go towards the University’s Capital Campaign. Non-UOG alumni are also welcome to participate at this event. The University of Guam Division of Mathematical Sciences has posted the January problems at www.uog.edu/mathematics. Submit your solutions by January 31, 2012 to uog_math@yahoo.com. We accept email submission only. Submissions must include the words “Math Contest” in the subject line of the email. In the body of the email please include your name, mailing address, school, and grade. Grants Management Certified
Janet Dirige, program coordinator IV at the University of Guam, completed the Grants Management Certificate Program offered through Management Concepts on September 30, 2011. The program is designed to assist educational institutions, local government or non-profit organizations develop aspects of grant management. Dirige manages several grants for the University of Guam
UOG and Huaqiao University Sign Agreement
The University of Guam and Huaqiao University have signed a memorandum of understanding advancing international exchange between higher education institutions in the People’s Republic of China and the United States. The two universities have agreed to encourage direct contact and research cooperation between their faculty members, departments, and research institutes. The agreement spans a five year period where the two institutions join in agreement on the promotion of educational and academic exchanges.

Educational Talent Search
The University of Guam's Educational Talent Search Program (ETS) is a college prep program that seeks to enhance the educational opportunities of middle and high schools students. Applications are currently being accepted for 9th - 12th graders attending any of the Guam Public High Schools. Enrollment is open on a first come first serve basis. Online Chemistry Course
Online GE Science Course Lecture (CH194) and Lab (CH194L) will be offered exclusively online for Spring 2012. The course will cover Basic Principles, Societal Applications and Environmental Issues. CLASS 33rd Annual Research Conference Call for Paper and Presentation Abstracts

Scholars and students that have been engaged in scholarly work in all disciplines are invited to participate in this UOG 60th anniversary Charter Day event on March 13, 2012. Presentations of papers, exhibits, panels, forums, workshops and performances are all welcome. The Conference Committee solicits proposals from faculty, undergraduate and graduate Students in any discipline. Papers are limited to: 20 minutes for presentation; 5 minutes for discussion; An abstract of no more than 150 words. FACULTY SUCCESS
Curtis Rigsby has been named the Book Review Editor of the Journal of Japanese Philosophy published by SUNY Press. This is the first international peer-reviewed journal in Japanese philosophy. This annual journal is devoted to scholarly engagement with a wide variety of philosophical texts and discourse, and aims to demonstrate the relevance of Japanese philosophy for all fields of contemporary philosophizing. Congratulations!

The Herminia Dierking Scholarship is Now Available!
DEADLINE: January 31, 2012
The Association of Government Accountants (AGA) Guam Chapter is pleased to offer the Herminia Dierking Scholarship. The scholarship is sponsored and funded jointly by the chapter and private sector contributors in recognition of the achievements of the late Herminia H. Dierking, a Legislator, Educator, Humanitarian, Past President of AGA Guam Chapter, Past Regional Vice President of AGA Pacific Rim and a past recipient of the AGA National Chapter Service Award.
The scholarship provides a total of $6,000 in scholarship funds to four (4) undergraduate students ($1,500 for each recipient, two recipients for Spring 2012 and two recipients for Fall 2012 semesters) at the University of Guam (UOG) who exhibits academic excellence in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance and Economics or Public Administration disciplines.
