This is the second child for Christine and Joaquin Tudela.

Baby Jenna weighed in at 7 pounds 6 ounces and 19 inches long.

Dr. Tom Shieh delivered the baby girl. He told PNC News the baby is doing fine and the mother is thrilled to have a baby girl to join their son.

The child and her parents are the recipients of a wide variety of gifts, valued at over $7,000, donated by Guam's business community and Guam residents.

2012 I Love Guam Baby “Where America’s First Baby is Born”

Guam Businesses Community continue to Donate Gifts to America’s FIRST Baby Valued over $7,000!

Guam is “Where America’s Day Begins”.  It is also where America’s first baby of the year is born.   For the seventh consecutive year, local businesses are celebrating this event by generously donating gifts to the baby and family of the first New Year baby born on Guam.

The “I LOVE GUAM NEW YEAR BABY” was started and organized by Archway, Inc. in 2005 and has grown significantly each year with participation from the local business community and private citizens.   

In addition to a $1,000 U.S. Savings Bond from Archway Inc. and one from Bank of Guam, and a $300 Savings Account from Bank Pacific, other gifts include, hotel over night stays at the PIC for 4, meal certificates from King’s Restaurants (one weeks worth of meal certificates), Seafood Grill, PROA, and Burger King, a years worth of disposable diapers from FHP, and massage treatments from Mandara Spa.  Additional sponsors include, PayLess Super Markets, SM Department Store, DFS Galleria and IT&E.  AK TOYOTA has again given a new baby safety car seat so that the baby can leave the hospital in safety and comfort.   And PRIME COLOR has for the 8th time, continued to give a large flower arrangement to celebrate the baby’s arrival.   The gift package will have a total value of over $7,000.00.    

“Every year the business community of Guam continues to give unselfishly for this once a year event.   They have no problem with helping to start the newest baby born in America off on the right foot.   The lucky family gets time away from the kitchen, can relax a little with a hotel stay and even not have to worry about diapers for at least the first year.   The generosity and the true Chamorro Spirit of Giving is just no where else to be found.   We are so fortunate to be living here on Guam, not only is this where Americas Day Begins, but Where Americas First Baby is Born, according to Hank Rice, the Marketing Director for Archway Inc.   “At the end of the day it is all about helping out and welcoming the FIRST and newest American, born in the U.S.A.   No other State or Territory in the U.S. can claim this” he added.

This year’s turnout has been amazing with all the shortfalls in the economy, the people of Guam still find it in their hearts to come together and celebrate the newest member of our island by donating birthday gifts.   2012 looks to be a very bright start for a very lucky baby, who ever it might be!

It is hoped that one day this event will bring the spot light onto Guam more so than the military build up.
