DPW: Top Course Mix Formula Passes the Test, Paving of Route 17 to Continue TUESDAY

Guam - The Department of Public Works has announced that the mix formula used to pave a test section of  Route 17 last week has ielded acceptable results, thus allowing further placement of pavement.

In a release, DPW says that they and their contractor Sumitomo Mitsui Construction, and subcontractor Hawaiian Rock will now proceed with the next phase of pavement on Route 17 next week.

From 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 3 and Wednesday, January 4, 2012, the section of Route 17 near Route 4 will be paved with traffic reduced to one lane during that time. From 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday, January 5 and 6, 2012, placement of pavement will be from the area near the Mini Camachile Tree Store proceeding in the direction toward Baza Gardens, covering approximately 1,000 feet of Route 17.  Traffic will again be reduced to one lane during this time.

Signage and safety personnel will be in place to ensure the safety of travelers through the area while the route is reduced to a single lane. Drivers are asked to remain alert and heed the direction of construction personnel.

The Department of Public Works thanks the public for their continued cooperation. For the safety of the driving public and the construction workers, motorists are asked to drive carefully, follow all road construction signs and take extra precaution, especially as our school buses resume transportation of our children.
