Sub-Tender USS Emory S. Land Makes Guam Its Home Port, Temporarily

Guam News - Guam News

Guam - The Navy welcomed the media on-board the USS Emory S. Land this afternoon [Friday].

The Commanding Officer of the USS Land is Captain Paul Savage.

The sub-tender Land arrived in Guam November 21 to temporarily relieve sister submarine tender USS Frank Cable as the lead submarine maintenance activity for 7th Fleet during Frank Cable’s docking phased maintenance availability.

In early 2010, Emory S. Land completed conversion from an all U.S. Navy Sailor crew to an integrated crew of Sailors and Military Sealift Command civilian mariners, becoming the first submarine tender to operate under this hybrid crew concept.

The Land’s crew is also unique in that sailors from the Frank Cable and the Nuclear Regional Maintenance Department in Norfolk, Virginia are augmenting the repair department on a rotational basis.
