NWS: Typhoon Choi-Wan To Pass N of Saipan Early Tuesday; Wind, Surf & Craft Warnings for Guam & Rota
Guam - Typhoon Choi-Wan is now not expected to pass north of the Saipan until early Tuesday morning. As of 2pm Monday afternoon the NWS reported that Choi Wan was still drifting west at 6 mph about 265 miles NE of Guam and 155 miles E-NE of Saipan. Winds are sustained at 85 mph.

Although a Tropical Storm Watch for Guam and Rota was lifted at 2pm Sunday, the NWS cautions that the tail of the storm will affect weather on Guam through Wednesday. High wind, high surf and small craft warnings have been issued for Guam and Rota.

Winds of between 25 and 35 miles per hour are expected, with gusts of up to 45 miles per hour.

The new warnings for Guam and Rota are the result of what the Weather Service says is a band of monsoon showers flowing into Typhoon Choi-Won which will drag heavy rain and high winds across Guam and Rota through Tuesday.
The 1pm fix places Typhoon Choi-Wan near 15.8 degrees north latitude and 147.9 east longitude.
A TROPICAL STORM WARNING is in effect for Saipan, Tinian and Agrihan. And a TYPHOON WATCH remains in effect for Saipan, Tinian as well as Agirhan.
A tropical storm warning means tropical storm-force winds of 39 mph or more are occurring or expected to occur within 24 hours.
A tropical storm warning in conjunction with a typhoon watch means tropical storm-force winds are expected, and typhoon-force winds of 74 mph or more are possible within 24 hours.
