UOG Math Contest – November Problems posted
The University of Guam Division of Mathematical Sciences hosts its annual math contest again year. The November problems are posted at www.uog.edu/mathematics. Challenge your mathematical mind and log onto the website to view the problems. Solutions for the October contest are due November 30, 2011. Submit your solution by email to uog_math@yahoo.com.

Organic Agriculture Workshop – Nov. 9
The College of Natural and Applied Sciences, Cooperative Extension Service and the School of Business and Public Administration offer the following FREE Workshops: Organic Pest Control for USDA Organic and Certified Naturally Grown on November 9; and Plant Material and Seeds for USDA Organic and Certified Naturally Grown on December 14. All workshops will be held from 1:00pm-5:00pm in the Anthony Leon Guerrero Multi-Purpose Room 129 (SBPA). For More information please call: 735-2080.

Marine Lab Presentation – Nov. 9
John McManus, Professor of Marine Biology and Fisheries and Director of the National Center for Coral Reef Research (NCORE) at the Rosenstiel School of the University of Miami, will give a seminar on Wednesday November 9 at 4pm in the Marine Lab Classroom. The title of his talk is, “Quantifying Losses and Gains in Ecological Functions Associated with Proposed Dredging and Mitigation Activities in Apra Harbor”.

University Theatre Presents “Autumn Follies” Student-Directed One Acts - Nov. 10-12 & Nov.16-19

UOG Theatre presents “Autumn Follies” an entertaining collection of humorous and dramatic student-directed one-acts. Come and enjoy the assortment of fantastical, witty, and solemn displays of human indulgence. Challenges and Solutions to Ecosystems and Communities in the Asia-Pacific Region: Reflections and Outcomes from the Asia-Pacific Youth Science Exchange Forum – Nov. 10
Alison Hadley, a senior and Rebecca Stephenson Scholar, will give a presentation on the above topic on November 10 at 3:30 pm in the Professional Development Room, HSS 3rd Floor, Dean’s Office. Alison Hadley attended the Asia-Pacific Youth Science Exchange Forum (APYSEF) in Okinawa in September. The forum promoted global connections based on similarities between cultures/communities in regards to environmental issues with special attention on global warming.

Planetarium shows Sky Legends of the World 19 - November 10, 11 &12

This month the Planetarium features Sky Legends of the World 19 at 6:30 and 7pm on Nov. 10, 11 and 12.

Sandwich Tactics and State-Building: Asian 'Neopopulisms' in Comparative Perspective – Nov. 17
Dr. Arun Swamy, Assistant Professor of Political Science, will give a presentation on state-building on November 17 at 4:00 pm in the CLASS Professional Development Room.

UOG Alumni Reunion Tuesday, Nov. 15
The UOG Alumni Reunion will be held at the Hyatt Regency Guam from 6pm to 10pm on Nov. 15. This “Novemberfest” themed event will feature “Speed Networking” and an epic fashion show featuring clothing styles from the 50’s to the present modeled by UOG alumni, students, administrators, faculty and staff. You can also sign up for the “Triton Privileges card” which will enable you to receive various discounts and offers at participating businesses. Plus: Free pupus, live music, chance to win great prizes and more! Tickets are now on sale for $30 and will be $35 at the door. COMM N’ SENSE – Nov. 17
The UOG Communication Field Experience CLASS hosts COMM N’ SENSE, a Forum and meet and greet event where students can hear from professionals in the fields of journalism, media, and PR. The event begins at 3pm in the CLASS Lecture Hall.

THANKSGIVING FESTIVAL – November 23
The 50th Student Government Association will be having a Thanksgiving Festival entitled “Gifts of Thanks” on November 23, 2011. It will be in the Student Center Courtyard from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Join us in celebrating Thanksgiving by contributing at least 1 nonperishable food item or used clothing. All proceeds will be donated to local charities. There will be FREE food, FREE entertainment, and FREE prizes. Hope to see you all there.

Tops in Blue – November 29

The Air Force group Tops in Blue will perform at the UOG Field House on November 29 at 6:30 p.m.

Submit Your Creative Works to Storyboard
The University of Guam’s Division of English and Applied Linguistics seeks submissions for its literary journal, Storyboard. Writers and artists from Guam and the greater Pacific are encouraged to submit their work for journal’s twelfth issue, which will focus on the theme, “Crossings.” All submissions must be emailed to storyboardjournal@gmail.com on or before midnight, December 8, 2011. SCHOLARSHIPS

The Soroptomist International of the Marianas
The Soroptomist International of the Marianas (SIM) is sponsoring a scholarship for University of Guam undergraduates who are permanent residents of Guam and are entering or are enrolled at UOG, from freshman through senior levels.  To maintain eligibility for the scholarship, recipient must be a full-time student, maintaining academic progress toward a degree, with a GPA of 3.0.  Students must show evidence of financial need. This is to be determined by the Financial Aid Office of the University of Guam. The Financial Aid Office will make an analysis of the family’s financial strength. Applicants must submit a financial aid form (FAFSA) to the Financial Aid Office.

GUAM WOMEN’S CLUB SEEKING FORMER SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

UOG and the Guam Women's Club are both celebrating their 60th anniversaries in 2012.  The Guam Women's Club has awarded scholarships to the Territorial College of Guam to the present. The Guam Women’s Club wants to honor these students at its 60th anniversary celebration in March and to show how students' lives have been changed through their UOG education.  If you received one of these scholarships or know someone who did, please contact Nancy Weare at bnweare@yahoo.com.
