Intercity Bowling Rolls On
Mandapat led the Tamuning women’s charge with a 1277 set while Javier poured in 1221, Velasco 1191 and Rankin 1198. Yap bowled the highest six game set with a 1316 total along with team mates Posadas 1258, Clutario 1189 and Cheng 1043.
Pohang’s last game fury fell short as a split leave in the 7th frame ended a furious rally but pushed them two positions up for a bronze medal finish with a 4786 total as Jun Sil Yoon poured in 1304 pins, Hee Jung Kim 1296, Myung Ae Yim 1201 and Sun Mee Kim 985.
In the Men’s division, Daegu outclassed all other participating cities as they trounced the field by a 157 pin margin as Tamuning secured the silver medal with a 398 pin lead over bronze medalist Hong Kong.
Suk Byung Choi rolled twelve strikes in a row during the second game of the six game block for his first perfect game of the championship and led the Daegu contingent with a 1435 series while his team member Su Wook Bae, Sung Hoon Shin and Young Pyo Kim each carried their load with sets of 1378, 1359 and 1342.
Tamuning’s squad of John John Ada, Jonathan Duenas, JD Castro and Brian Manibusan was unable to keep pace with the Daegu group but performed impressively averaging 223 pins per game finishing with a 5357 total. Ada amassed 1370 pins, Duenas 1347, Castro 1340 and Manibusan 1300 in securing the silver medal from the onset.
Hong Kong’s Kwan Ho Lau, Yin Ki Tsang, Ka Long Lai, Yat Long Chan squeezed by Pohang in the final block with a 4959 total. Scores include 1287, 1218, 1141 and 1313 respectively as they bowled 30 pins higher than the Pohang squad.
Daegu takes first four slots in All Events
Daegu’s performance during the 23rd Asian Intercity Bowling Championship can only be summed up as “fantastic” as competitors finished 1-2-3-4 to claim all the medals and points in the men’s division All Events standings. Perfect gamers Choi Suk Byung and Kim Young Pyo led the contingent with a 4326 and 4279 total while Shin Sung Hoon and Bae Su Wook followed with a 4156 and 4094 total. Local bet Brian Manibusan finished in fifth with a 4092 total.
Along with Daegu’s full contingent Tamuning will be represented by all four of their bowlers. Manibusan heads the field along with Castro who finished in 8th place with a 4001 total, Ada’s 3958 in 10th and Duenas in 13th with a 3892 total.
Pohang head lined the women’s division with a 1-2 punch as Yoon Jun Sil and Kim Hee Jung amassed a 4044 and 4007 count. Lara Pasadas of Paranaque held on to third place with a 3885 total while Shah Alam’s Yap Wi Yin finished in fourth on 3817 pins and local bet Felymar Mandapat landed in 5th place with a 3763 total.
Paranaque will field three bowlers in the Masters with Pasadas, Cecilia Yap and Liz Clutario while Pasay sends all four bowlers including Yap Seok Kim, Angeli Lao, Angeli Go and Ditas Red with Tamuning sporting three finalists including Mandapat, Shellee Javier and Leanne Rankin.
