Lone Gunman Kills 5 Including Himself In Saipan Shooting Spree; 8 Others Injured
Guam - Authorities in Saipan say that a lone gunman went on a shooting spree killing 5 people including himself and wounding 8 others Friday.
The shooting began late Friday morning at a firing range in Kannat Tabla where 4 people were killed. The dead are a 2 year old girl and a 4 year old boy. Two Saipan residents were also killed at the shooting range, both men, one reportedly in his 20's and the other in his 30's. Saipan Police say the 2 men were shot in the head and at close range.
The shooter then reportedly drove to the north end of Saipan to Marpi Point where he reportedly opened fire on a group of Korean tourists before turning the gun on himself.
Among the wounded are 2 Saipan residents and 6 Korean tourists including a 4 year old Korean girl who was reported in critical condition.
The shooter has been identified as Lee Zhong Ren. Authorities describe his motive as "a business deal gone bad."
They say he was in the process of opening a new shooting range in Saipan. But its not yet clear what it was, about that business deal, that triggered the shooting.
