Guam- Four swimming records were broken at the long course (50 meters) swim meet held on Saturday, October 31 at the Agana public pool. With fans cheering and his head coach Toshi Iijima pacing the pool deck, 15 year-old swimming sensation Tasi Limtiaco, a model student at Harvest Christian Academy and an up and coming star swimmer for Tsunami Swim Club, broke a Guam swimming record that had stood for twenty years. His time of 2 minutes 12.51 seconds in the 200 meter individual medley (IM) smashed the old record held by Jonathan Sakovich since 1989 by almost 4 seconds. The amazing Tasi also broke Glen Diaz’s old record set in 1991 in the 400 IM with a time of 4 minutes 51.19 seconds by over 7 seconds. Tasi then went on to best his own record in the 100 meter backstroke with a new time of 1 minute and 2.54 seconds.

On the girls side, 13 year old Misaki Iijima, who also swims for Tsunami under her coach/father’s watchful eye broke her previous record in the 200 IM with a new time of 2 minutes and 34.22 seconds bringing the total to 4 for number of record set at this meet. For all those in attendance, it was quite a show.
