Guam - There are several programs and tuition funding available to Guam Department of Education teachers who wish to earn the federal designation
of a highly qualified teacher. Teachers are encouraged to visit www.uog.edu/hqt for details on each of the programs.
• Teachers who want to earn their certification must be accepted into the UOG Graduate School by March 16, 2011.
• Teachers who wish to take the Praxis I preparation course must visit the University of Guam Professional and International Programs office for
tuition assistance and to begin the registration process. Teachers must bring an HQT identification form signed by their administrator along with
a recent check stub.
• Elementary and secondary teachers who wish to enroll in the Praxis II preparation programs can take several courses in preparation for the
Praxis II content tests. Elementary content classes include 15 hours each of science, math, and language arts/social studies for a total of three
(3) ED894 credits. Secondary teachers can take three (3) 45-hour classes to prepare them for the Praxis II content. Classes are available in
language arts, math, science, and social studies.
Teachers must bring all required documents and register at the UOG Professional & International Program (PIP) office by Wednesday, March 16th to enroll in Session 1.
The grant will pay the tuition for all classes; however teachers are responsible for university fees. The HQT programs are offered through a
partnership between the Guam Department of Education and the University of Guam and are funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
