GCC Hosts Another Earmark Graduation Tuesday

Guam News - Community Events

Guam - Guam Community College will graduate over 30 people from its Earmark Congressional Grant construction and electronics program Tuesday,  February 22, at 10 am in the GCC Multipurpose Auditorium. The Earmark Congressional Grant program is designed to train individuals as skilled craft workers in the construction and electronics fields in light of the impending military buildup and the increased need for skilled workers on the island. GCC received $383,187 to train up to 100 people during five construction cycles and three electrical cycles of the program. Tomorrow’s ceremony marks graduation for the fourth construction cycle and the third and final electrical cycle of the program. GCC is applying for an extension of the grant to continue the training, based on the expected need for construction jobs on Guam in the next five years.

Earmark graduates receive a Certification of Completion and qualify as a Construction or Electrical Semi-Skilled Helper. Along with the training certificate, graduates are awarded undergraduate college credits and continuing education units that can be applied toward a higher postsecondary degree or certificate program. The graduates have already secured jobs with companies they interned with during the program, applied for jobs on their own, or have chosen to continue their education at GCC.

The Earmark training program is free to qualified unemployed or underemployed high school or GED graduates.
