Guam Judiciary: Superior Court of Guam Clerk of Court Richard Martinez to Retire

Guam - Chief Justice F. Philip Carbullido announced today the retirement of longtime Superior Court of Guam Clerk of Court Richard Martinez. His retirement will be effective at the close of business on Monday, September 30, 2013. An announcement regarding his successor is forthcoming.

“Richard has served with distinction and determination. He is well respected by the employees of the Judiciary and will be missed greatly.” Said Chief Justice Carbullido.

Martinez first served as Acting Superior Court of Guam Clerk of Court on October 1, 1999 until his permanent appointment to the position by Carbullido on December 27, 2004. Martinez began his court service as a Superior Court Bailiff on May 7, 1984 and later served as a Deputy Clerk, Traffic Violations Bureau Clerk and Chief Deputy Clerk of the Courts & Ministerial Division of the Superior Court of Guam.

Local baseball fans will remember Martinez as one of Guam Major League’s best baseball players. Martinez was the catcher for the UOG Tritons and was nicknamed the ‘Son of Slam’ in 1983.
